Is Portugal expensive for tourists?

Definitely not! Portugal is one of the cheapest countries in Europe.  You can travel around Portugal on a low budget. You will be surprised by the prices in Portugal.

How much does it cost to vacation in Portugal?

How much is a meal in Portugal?

Bakeries, pastry shops, and cafes sell delicious pastries like Pastel de Nata for 2€ or less. Coffee in Portugal is usually between 0,70€ and 1,50€.

Fast food or pizza sometimes is more expensive than one soup and main dish in a typical restaurant. For lunch at a casual restaurant, you’ll spend around 8-25€ per person, which includes drinks. Many restaurants offer a menu of the day, “prato do dia,” “menu do dia”. The price and food are fantastic! That is the best way to save your money. You’ll spend more money per person for a lovely dinner with drinks.

Can I use my credit card or debit card in Portugal?

Credit cards and debit cards are handy for cash advances. Visa and MasterCard are the most widely accepted cards. However, no one accepts American Express cards here in Portugal!

While ATMs are widely available. There are no guarantees that your credit or debit cards will work in Western Europe. Please check with your bank! You should be aware that to purchase products or services on a credit card, a fee of 5%-10% usually applies.

How much cash should I bring to Portugal?

A combination of Euros and cards is best. Please also ensure you access at least an additional USD 200 (or equivalent) as an emergency fund.

Definitely, the best currency is Euro!

Can I exchange currency with a debit card?

Sorry, we contacted a few stores that don’t accept debit cards or credit cards to exchange currency.

How do I book a trip to Portugal?

Yes, Ask for your travel insurance quote online at no cost. As you can see, it is not too expensive! Although touring is one of the safest ways to travel, accidents happen.

Contact your local embassy or consulate for the most up-to-date visa requirements. It is your responsibility to have the correct travel documentation.

All visitors to the EU (European Union) and EEC (European Economic Community) countries require a valid passport (with a minimum of 6 months validity on an adult or child passport). USA, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand passport holders do not need a visa to visit the Schengen area. However, they may not stay longer than three months.

New Rules for 2023! Visa to enter Europe will be expected to apply for an ETIAS travel authorization.

What are the best seasons to go to Portugal?

The best seasons to visit Portugal are spring and fall because you have good weather and long days.
Winter, from December to February, is mild on the coast, even in the northern part, since the average temperature in January is around 9 °C (48 °F) in Porto and 11 °C (52 °F) in Lisbon. That is rare to snow in Portugal. The last time was in 2006!
In winter, there are periods of good weather when the Azores Anticyclone settles in the country. For example, last February 27th (2019) was 22º C in Porto! But there are also waves of bad weather, with rain and wind.
