Arrive at any time, and a transfer will be ready to take you to your hotel. There are no scheduled activities today, so feel free to explore the city at your own pace. Hotel check-in is available from 2 PM onward. If you arrive earlier, you can leave your luggage at reception and check in later.

DAY 2
Funchal
Free time. The day is free to relax and explore the city on your own. Start your exploration at the Mercado dos Lavradores, a bustling local market that captures the essence of Madeira. Wander through colorful stalls brimming with fresh fruits, vegetables, and regional delicacies. Don’t miss the chance to sample Madeira’s famous exotic fruits and traditional pastries.
After soaking in the lively atmosphere of the market, head to the Monte Palace Tropical Garden, a serene oasis that you can reach via a scenic cable car ride. The garden features lush tropical plants, tranquil water features, and breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. It’s an ideal spot to unwind and appreciate Madeira’s natural beauty.
As the day winds down, take a relaxing walk along Funchal’s picturesque marina. Enjoy the gentle sea breeze and admire the stunning views of the harbor and ocean. This serene stroll provides a perfect conclusion to your first day in Madeira.

Levada Walk in Funchal – 10 km (hiking tour in the mountain)

While we currently recommend and offer Madeira as a post-tour extension — mainly because it’s easier, faster, and often more affordable to fly directly from Oporto  Airport to the Azores after your mainland tour — you’re welcome to visit the islands beforehand if that suits your travel plans.

Depending on your home country, you may be able to book a direct international flight to Madeira and then connect to Lisbon in time for the start of your tour. If you choose this option, please ensure your travel dates allow enough time for any potential delays and for a smooth arrival in Lisbon.

A levada is a narrow irrigation channel unique to the island of Madeira. Built beginning in the 16th century, levadas were designed to carry water from the rainy and forested north of the island to the drier agricultural lands in the south.

Today, many levadas run alongside scenic walking trails, offering hikers breathtaking views of mountains, valleys, and lush Laurisilva forest — a UNESCO World Heritage site. Walking along a levada is one of the best ways to explore Madeira’s natural beauty.

This is a mountain walk and not suitable for people with mobility issues or difficulty walking long distances. There are no cafés, restaurants, or rest areas along the trail, so you must be prepared to walk continuously.
